The story of our History
The history of the Schwärzler hotels began in 1930, when the married couple Emma and Karl Schwärzler-Nussbaumer from Lingenau bought the guesthouse Rieden in Bregenz. At that time, nobody could know that their youngest son Helmut Schwärzler with his wife Ruth would once take over the hotel Scesaplana in Brand.
In 1948, the hotel Scesaplana-Post in Brand burnt down and was taken over by the family Frick, a dynasty of building contractors from Liechtenstein, who converted it to one of the most modern hotels in Vorarlberg. Here, nine years later, their eldest daughter Ruth met the youngest son of the Schwärzler family, Helmut, who had come to the hotel Scesaplana to work as a receptionist.
The two of them fell in love and married in 1959. And in the same year Helmut and Ruth Schwärzler became the managers of Hotel Scesaplana. Thanks to their pioneering spirit and their fine business instinct as well as their extraordinary sense for real, heartfelt hospitality, the small but beautiful Schwärzler hotel group includes, in addition to the Scesaplana, now the hotel Lagant in Brand, the hotel Gorfion in Malbun/Liechtenstein, the hotel Schwärzler (the former guesthouse Rieden) in Bregenz as well as the hotel Neutor in Salzburg.
Not only the number of hotels, but also the members of the Schwärzler family has increased steadily since 1959. Seven children took care of action in the Schwärzler home apart from the business development and the management of the hotels. And, same as with Helmut Schwärzler senior, again the youngest of the Schwärzler family, Hubert, with his wife Andrea, takes care of the management of all Schwärzler hotels.
